John McGovern is a lifelong Floridian who resides in West Palm Beach with his wife, Michelle. He received both his Bachelor of Arts (Political Science) and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

As an attorney at Robert M. Montgomery, Jr. & Associates, P.L. since 1999, McGovern has worked on some of the firm’s most important, challenging and high profile cases. In 2000, McGovern joined Robert Montgomery in representing the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections in the Florida Presidential recount controversy. In 2002, he joined Montgomery in the successful civil trial of a first of its kind wrongful death/product liability lawsuit against the distributor of a “Saturday Night Special” handgun used in the tragic shooting of a local school teacher killed by one of his students.

Presently, McGovern works on a wide range of cases including cases brought on behalf of loved ones killed in airplane crashes, medical malpractice cases, and actions against insurance companies on behalf of injured automobile crash victims. McGovern is admitted to practice before all Courts of State of Florida and he is a member of The Florida Bar, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers and the Palm Beach County Bar Association.

Prior to joining the firm, John McGovern was a prominent leader at the University of Florida where he served as both President of the Student Body and President of the Senate. He also served the University of Florida as a member of its Boards of Directors for: the University of Florida Foundation, Inc., the UF National Alumni Association, the University Athletic Association, and the President’s Council. McGovern is a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame and UF’s College of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame.

McGovern gives back to the local community through his involvement as a founding member of the West Palm 100, a young professionals’ service organization, by volunteering to coach high school debate and mock trial teams, by raising funds for the Palm Beach County Legal Aid Society and by participating in American Heart Association and American Cancer Society events.
