Products can hurt people. Robert Montgomery was the lead attorney in the lawsuit filed by the State of Florida against American tobacco manufacturers. The amount of the settlement? $11.3 billion, which was later increased to $13.5 billion. Since 2000, the firm has been involved in a lawsuit wherein a 13-year old boy shot and killed his teacher with a small handgun known as a "Saturday Night Special." Therein suit was filed against the distributor, seller and owner of the handgun. Settlements prior to trial totaling almost one million dollars were reached with the seller and owner of the handgun. In late 2002, the case against the remaining defendant, gun distributor, went to trial; at trial, the jury returned a verdict in excess of $24 million.
